Cannabidiol is a substance that is derived from the hemp plant. The seed and stalk of the hemp plant has a high concentration of cannabidiol, which is full of nutrients, vitamins, and other components that promote health. This substance is devoid of psychoactive activity. CBD is a modulator. This means that it assists the body's natural ability to maintain itself. This is done through the stimulating the endocannabinoid system.
Discovered in the 1930's, this system identified substances, neurotransmitters formed within the body (endo-) that bind to cannabinoid receptors though out the body which is responsible for homeostasis. There are two primary types; Ananamide (known as the bodies version of cannabis), which regulates sleep, pain, pleasure, food intake, and reproduction, and 2-AG which has regulatory roles in the vascular system, the gut and digestive functions, and neurological areas. The system has two receptor types: CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are found in an abundance in the brain and regulates the body's functions, while CB2 regulates the immune functions in regards to pain and inflammation. This receptor is a focus of study in relationship to the management of cancer.

This is done through neurological and chemical actions initiated by signals and receptors throughout the body.
